## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON -7-18-96, AT 1930 LOCAL TIME, AFTER TAKEOFF FROM HOU, AT 350 FT. ALTITUDE, HOU TOWER REPORTED THAT N614HA, A HA-200 JET, CERTIFICATED IN THE EXPERIMENTAL/EXHIBITION CATEGORY, WAS TRAILING SMOKE FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT. PILOT VISUALLY CONFIRMED THE SMOKE AND PERFORMED AN INSTRUMENT SCAN. ALL INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND SHUTDOWN THE RIGHT HAND ENGINE. AIRCRAFT WAS LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT, WITHOUT ANY INJURIES OR DAMAGE. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION REVEALED THE RIGHT HAND ENGINE EXTERNAL OIL LINE HAD FAILED AND BLEW OIL ONTO THE ENGINE CAUSING THE SMOKE. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE. NEW OIL LINES ARE BEING FABRICATED BY THE LOCAL REPAIR STATION. IT WAS SUGGESTED TO MAINTENANCE THAT THE OTHER EXTERNAL OIL LINES ON THE OTHER ENGINE BE INSPECTED AT THIS TIME. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
