## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON JULY 24, 1996, ON A FLIGHT FROM CHAMBERLAIN, SD DIRECT TO SIOUX FALLS, SD, IN VMC ON AN IFR FLIGHT, APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES WEST OF FSD, DURING THE DESCENT, SMOKE BEGAN TO FILL THE CABIN OF N900TT, A BEECH 36A WITH AN ALLISON TURBINE CONVERSION. ELECTRICAL POWER WAS SHUT OFF AFTER THE AIRCRAFT WAS SLOWED DOWN TO GEAR EXTENSION SPEED. PILOT AND RATED PASSENGER FLEW THE AIRPLANE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE THAT HAD ERUPTED BENEATH THE PILOT'S SEAT. THE DESCENT ALLOWED FOR THE AIRCRAFT TO REACH THE DESTINATION AIRPORT AND A SUCCESSFUL LANDING WAS COMPLETED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS SHUTDOWN. A FUEL LINE HAD BEEN ARCED BY AN ELECTRICAL WIRE DEVELOPING A PIN HOLE IN THE FUEL LINE. MINOR SMOKE DAMAGE AND BURNED ELECTRICAL WIRES RESULTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
