## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

HIGH AND FAST FOR NIGHT LANDING. BEGAN GO AROUND. STALLED INTO TREES ON CLIMBING TURNOUT. (-23) PILOT (GARY BRADFORD) WAS LANDING AT THE BACKUS AIRPORT, WHICH HE HAD DONE BEFORE, BUT THIS WAS THE 1ST TIME AT NIGHT. HE CAME IN HIGH & FAST, AND HAD TO EXECUTE A GO AROUND, HE BANKED TOO HARD AND STALLED THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI96LA256](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI96LA256), Jul 27, 1996: Cessna 172M (N1620V), Backus, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain adequate altitude and his abrupt maneuver to avoid the tree tops. The dark night was a factor.

## Other reports on N1620V (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19910816040439I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910816040439I), Aug 16, 1991: Cessna 172M (N1620V), Madison, MO. Fuel exhaustion. Forced landing on a highway. Obtained fuel and continued flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
