## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON AUGUST 2, 1996, A CESSNA 188 AIRCRAFT, N39RJ, WAS IN A STRAIGHT AND LEVEL FLIGHT ENROUTE TO ITS HOME BASE WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION IN A CORN FIELD AND CAME TO REST AFTER COLLAPSING THE NOSE GEAR. THERE WERE NO INJURIES INCURRED BY THE PILOT WHO DUMPED HIS LOAD PRIOR TO GOING DOWN. CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT IS UNDETERMINED AT THIS TIME. THE AIRCRAFT WAS REMOVED FROM THE FIELD ON NOVEMBER 4, 1996.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
