## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT GAIN LIFT AFTER TAKEOFF AND CRASHED IN A CORN FIELD ON DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY. (-23) THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS ONLY ABLE TO CLIMB APPROXIMATELY FIVE TO TEN FEET AFTER TAKEOFF. THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED INTO A MATURE CORN FIELD AT THE DEPARTURE END OF THE AIRSTRIP. THE COLLISION WITH THE CORN STALKS CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO IMPACT THE GROUND, NOSE FIRST, AND FLIP OVER ON ITS BACK. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS LOADED WITH A TYPICAL LOAD THAT HE HAS FLOWN OUT OF THIS AIRSTRIP FOR MANY YEARS. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THAT HE ENCOUNTERED SOME "DISTURBED AIR" AFTER LIFT-OFF, WHICH PROHIBITED THE AIRCRAFT TO CLIMB ABOVE THE CORN CROP. THE PILOT DID NOT JETTISON THE LOAD OF CHEMICALS THAT WAS CARRIED FOR THE DISPENSING OPERATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW96LA338](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW96LA338), Aug 7, 1996: Cessna A188B (N92917), Winnsboro, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed and altitude/clearance during the takeoff. A factor was the density altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
