## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON 08/10/96 AN INSTRUCTOR PROVIDING DUAL INSTRUCTION TO HIS STUDENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF OBTAINING A TYPE RATING IN THE MORANE SAULNIER (MS76) DEPARTED BRIDGEPORT, CT (BDR). THE STUDENT FLEW THE ENTIRE FIRST LEG OF THE TRIP TO STEWART, NY WHERE THE AIRCRAFT MADE A SUCCESSFUL COMPLETER STOP LANDING. AFTER DEPARTING STEWART ON THE RETURN TRIP TO BDR THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND FLEW AT AN APPROXIMATE ALTITUDE OF 4500'. THE LANDING AT BDR WAS WITHIN 200' OF THE NUMBERS AND THE INITIAL BRAKING RESPONSE SEEMED GOOD AS THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED RAPIDLY. AS THE AIRCRAFT PASSED TAXIWAY HOTEL THE INSTRUCTOR NOTICED THE BRAKE RESPONSE FADING. HE INSTRUCTED HIS STUDENT TO TRY HIS BUT THE STUDENT REPORTED THE SAME. THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE END OF THE RUNWAY AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED 15-20 MPH AND PROCEEDED APPROXIMATELY 80' INTO A DITCH WITH APPROXIMATELY 4' OF WATER IN IT. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF BRAKING THROUGH THE 80' OF GRASS.
