## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON AUGUST 16, 1996, AIRCRAFT 3074F, A CAMERON A-210 LIGHTER-THAN-AIR BALLOON, WAS OPERATED ON A SIGHT-SEEING TOUR WITH 10 PASSENGERS AND ONE PILOT ABOARD. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM TETON VILLAGE NEAR JACKSON, WY, AND NEAR THE BORDER OF GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK. THE FLIGHT WAS INTENDED TO TERMINATE AT ITS POINT OF ORIGIN. THE COMMERCIAL PILOT, EDWARD J. CHEBUL, ENCOUNTERED UNFORECASTED AND UNOBSERVED WINDS THAT CAUSED THE BALLOON TO TRAVEL NORTH INTO THE NATIONAL PARK. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO FIND FAVORABLE WINDS TO EXIT THE PARK AND MADE A DECISION TO LAND BEFORE EXHAUSTING THE FUEL SUPPLY. A CONTROLLED LANDING WAS MADE IN A CLEARING. HOWEVER, THE LANDING SWAY OF THE ENVELOPE CAUSED IT TO CONTACT A 50 FOOT DEAD TREE SNAG AND TEAR SEVERAL NON-LOAD BEARING PANELS. THE PASSENGERS AND PILOT WERE UNINJURED, AND THE BALLOON SUFFERED MINOR DAMAGE. REVIEW OF THE INCIDENT INDICATES A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL AVIATION REGULATIONS DID NOT OCCUR AND THE BALLOON FUNCTIONED NORMALLY DURING THE FLIGHT. THIS IS A FINAL REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
