## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON 8/17/96, FEDERAL EXPRESS FLIGHT 1284 TAXIED TO THE RUNWAY FOR TAKEOFF. WHEN THE AIRCREW ADVANCED ENGINE POWER FOR TAKEOFF, THEY FELT VERY STRONG AIRCRAFT VIBRATIONS. THE AIRCREW RETARDED THE ENGINE THROTTLES AND ABORTED TAKEOFF. MAINTENANCE INSPECTED THE #1 ENGINE AND FOUND MASSIVE COMPRESSOR DAMAGE. MAINTENANCE REMOVED AND REPLACED THE #1 ENGINE AND RETURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED. CE96ICMO123.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
