## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: PILOT AND PASSENGER DEPARTED HALF MOON BAY, CA ON A PLEASURE FLIGHT DESTINED TO GRASS VALLEY, CA. WHEN IN THE VICINITY OF THE SACRAMENTO AREA THE PILOT REPORTED THAT WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR INDICATION THE ENGINE BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH. HE REQUESTED CLEARANCE TO LAND AT SACRAMENTO (SMF). LANDING WAS UNEVENTFUL. PRELIMINARY INSPECTION REVEALED THE NUMBER 1 CYL HAD NO COMPRESSION. PILOT/OWNER HIRED A MECHANIC TO DO THOROUGH ANALYSIS. WHILE AT THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE MECHANIC WE DETECTED THAT THE NUMBER 1 CYLINDER WAS CRACKED NEARLY HALF WAS AROUND THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE CYL BARREL. THERE WAS NO OTHER ABNORMALITIES NOTED. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER, THE ENGINE WAS OVERHAULED ABOUT 360 HOURS AGO. ALSO DISCUSSION WITH THE OWNER REVEALED HE HAS NOTED HIGHER THAN NORMAL ENGINE TEMPERATURES ALTHOUGH NOT EXCEEDING ANY LIMITS. THIS CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE VERY HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES WHILE OPERATING THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
