## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: US AIR 1184 WAS ENROUTE FROM NEW ORLEANS TO BWI. WHEN JUST NORTH OF MGM, A FEMALE PASSENGER SEATED IN 13A SHOWED A MESSAGE WRITTEN ON THE INSIDE OF THE US AIR MAGAZINE TO F/A SOULE. THE PAX STATED THAT SHE KNEW THIS DIDN'T MEAN ANYTHING BUT WHAT A SICK PERSON TO WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THE MESSAGE STATED "IF YOU DON'T LEAVE YOU WILL DIE. THERE IS A BOMB IN THIS AIRPLANE. TELL ALL." F/A SOULE SHOWED THE MESSAGE TO F/A BAREFOOT AND TOLD HIM THAT THE CAPTAIN NEEDED TO SEE IT. HE IMMEDIATELY WENT FORWARD AND SHOWED IT TO THE CAPTAIN. SHE CALLED THE COMPANY AND ATC, DECLARED AN EMERGENCY WITH CENTER AND REQUESTED LANDING AT ATL. THE CABIN WAS PREPARED FOR LANDING AND FOR EVACUATION. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 8R AND TURNED OFF ON THE FIRST LEFT HIGH SPEED TAXIWAY. THE CAPTAIN BROUGHT THE AIRCRAFT TO A STOP AND ORDERED THE EVACUATION. BOTH FORWARD SLIDES (THERE ARE ONLY TWO ON THIS AIRCRAFT) WERE DEPLOYED AND THE OVERWING EXITS (4) WERE ALSO OPENED AND USED. THERE WERE 5 PERSONS WHO WERE TREATED AT THE SCENE FOR SCRAPES AND BRUISES. THE TWO SLIDES WERE THE EXITS USED BY MOST OF THE PASSENGERS. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 20 SECONDS TO GET EVERYONE OFF THE AIRCRAFT. AIRCRAFT SEARCH GAVE NEGATIVE RESULTS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
