## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON THE EVENING OF AUGUST 28, 1996, I LEFT KNOXVILLE (TYS) ENROUTE TO CHATTANOOGA (CHA) TO PICK UP BANK WORK AND BRING IT BACK TO TYS./IT WAS A DEAD HEAD LEG TO CHA AND PART 135 FOR THE RETURN LEG ONLY. UPON ARRIVAL AT CHA I WAS VECTORED ON THE DOWN WIND AND INFORMED THAT I WAS NUMBER THREE FOR THE AIRPORT. TO AVOID GETTING A LONG WAY AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT I BEGAN SLOWING THE AIRCRAFT DOWN ONCE I WAS ABEAM THE TOUCHDOWN POINT. AT THAT TIME I PULLED THE MANIFOLD PRESSURE BACK TO ABOUT 18", EXTENDED APPROACH FLAPS, AND LOWERED THE LANDING GEAR. I CONTINUED TO LOOK FOR THE TRAFFIC, AND WAS FINALLY TURNED TO BASE THEN CLEARED FOR THE VISUAL TO RUNWAY 2 AS THE TRAFFIC WAS ON SHORT FINAL AND NO FACTOR. TO GET BACK TO THE AIRPORT A LITTLE QUICKER I RETRACTED THE GEAR AND WAS HANDED OFF TO THE TOWER. AT THIS POINT I WAS CLEARED TO LAND RWY 2 AND BEGAN EXTENDING THE REST OF THE FLAPS AND NEVER RECHECKED THAT I HAD THREE GREEN LIGHTS. I BELIEVE I JUST HAD A MENTAL PICTURE OF HAVING THE GEAR EXTENDED ON THE DOWNWIND, AND COMPLETELY FORGOT TO RE-EXTEND IT FROM THE TIME I WAS CLEARED FOR THE APPROACH (APPROXIMATELY 7 MILES) UNTIL I TOUCHED DOWN WITH FULL FLAPS AND NO GEAR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
