## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE CFI & PRE-SOLO STUDENT (STUDENT IS REGISTERED OWNER) WERE APPROACHING K34'S RWY 08. SEVERAL 50 GAL BARRELS, CUT IN HALF & PAINTED ORANGE & WHITE, ARE PLACED APPROX. 10 FEET PRIOR TO THE END OF RWY 08 (ROUND SIDE UP). CFI STATED THAT THE STUDENT'S APPROACH APPEARED NORMAL, WITH A/S 70 MPH & FLAPS 30. HOWEVER, THE CFI ALLOWED THE STUDENT TO TOUCHDOWN APPROX. 15 FEET SHORT OF THE RWY. THE RIGHT MAIN TIRE STRUCK ONE OF THE 1/2 BARRELS, WHICH IN TURN STRUCK THE LEADING EDGE OF THE RIGHT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER, CAUSING DENTING & SKIN TEARS. THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED, AT WHICH POINT THE CFI TOOK THE CONTROLS & COMPLETED THE LANDING. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THIS INCIDENT, #CE96IGA0129, IS CLOSED.
