## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1996, CESSNA 310, N5077Q, PILOTED BY MR. RUBEN TORRES, DEPARTED SAN JUAN, PR TO PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. UPON SELECTING THE LANDING GEAR UP MR. TORRES HEARD A LOUD BANG NOISE. MR. TORRES LOOKED OUT AND OBSERVED THAT THE LANDING GEAR WAS STILL DOWN AND THAT AN UNSAFE LANDING GEAR INDICATION WAS INDICATED BY THE LANDING GEAR POSITION LIGHTS. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO RECYCLE THE LANDING GEAR IN AN ATTEMPT TO LOCK IT IN THE DOWN POSITION. HE MADE A LOW PATH OVER RUNWAY 8 AT LUIS MUNOZ MARIN AIRPORT, SAN JUAN, PR TO VERIFY, WITH THE HELP OF THE ATCT CONTROLLERS, THAT THE LANDING GEAR WAS IN THE DOWN POSITION. THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS INFORMED HIM THAT THE LANDING GEAR APPEARED TO BE DOWN. MR. TORRES RETURNED AND LANDED. UPON LANDING THE LEFT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED, RESULTING IN MINOR DAMAGES TO THE AIRCRAFT AND NO INJURIES TO BOTH OCCUPANTS. A SITE INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED MODERATE CORROSION ON ALL THREE LANDING GEARS ASSEMBLY. FURTHER INSPECTION MADE BY THE AIRCRAFT MECHANIC REVEALED THAT THE PUSH AND PULL ROD-END ASSEMBLY BROKE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
