## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS OPERATING THE AIRCRAFT AT LOW ALTITUDE OVER A HEAVY WOODED AREA OF CASEY COUNTY, KENTUCKY. WITNESS STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A TREE RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING TIP. THE AIRCRAFT FLEW FOR APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET FROM THE TREE, STRIKING THE TERRAIN ALONG SIDE HIGHWAY 501. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED AND THE AIRPLANE WAS DESTROYED IN POST-IMPACT FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD96LA151](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD96LA151), Sep 23, 1996: Cessna 150C (N1947Z), Liberty, KY, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain adequate altitude, while maneuvering at a low altitude, which resulted in in-flight collision with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
