## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON OCTOBER 21, 1996, AT APPROXIMATELY 2030 MDT, FEDERAL EXPRESS FLIGHT 1289, A BOEING 727, LANDED AT EL PASO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN EL PASO, TX. THE AIRCRAFT TURNED LEFT CLEARING RUNWAY 26L AT TAXIWAY K FOLLOWED BY A 135 DEGREE RIGHT TURN ON TO THE CARGO RAMP. THE RIGHT TURN DID NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT DISTANCE TO PERMIT THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR TO CLEAR THE TAXIWAY K/RWY 8R TAXIWAY LOCATION SIGN. BOTH RIGHT MAIN TIRES RAN THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE SIGN INCURRING CUTS TO THE TIRES. THE CUTS WERE BEYOND LIMITS SPECIFIED BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER NECESSITATING THEIR REPLACEMENT. THE RIGHT TRAIL IN BOARD FLAP SUSTAINED A DENT 17/32 OF AN INCH DEEP. MAINTENANCE INSPECTED THE DENT THEN COVERED IT WITH SPEED TAPE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE IN ACCORDANCE WITH MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES SPECIFIED IN THE COMPANY'S APPROVED MAINTENANCE PROGRAM. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. ON OCTOBER 23, 1996, THE CREW WAS ADMINISTERED A LINE CHECK AT THE DIRECTION OF THE PRINCIPAL OPERATIONS INSPECTOR. THE CHECK WAS SATISFACTORY. NO FURTHER ACTION REQUIRED. FILE CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
