'WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GAIN [A] GREATER AIRSPEED, THE AIRPLANE WAS DISPLACED FURTHER TO THE RIGHT OF THE RUNWAY,' STRUCK A TREE, AND SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED A HISTORICAL MARKER. AT 0949, 11 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, THE WINDS AT THE HOUSTON HOBBY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN HOUSTON, TEXAS, 10 NAUTICAL MILES FROM THE ACCIDENT SITE, WERE FROM 120 DEGREES AT 14 KNOTS, GUSTING TO 22 KNOTS. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW97LA043](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW97LA043), Nov 15, 1996: Cessna 170B (N25JM), Manvel, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: Loss of aircraft control due to the pilot's inadequate compensation for the crosswind. A factor was the crosswind.

## Other reports on N25JM (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19780713043909I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19780713043909I), Jul 13, 1978: Cessna 170 (N25JM), Terrytown, FL, Minor damage. Pilot hit a hole on takeoff from a wet sod strip. Bent the propeller.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
