## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

EXECUTED LOCAL APPROACH THEN STALLED 40FT UP OVER RUNWAY. HIT LEFT WING FIRST. AIRFRAME WAS ICED UP. MISJUDGEMENT. (-23) ON DECEMBER 6, 1996, THIS AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTED A LOC 31 APPROACH TO THE PARK RAPIDS, MINNESOTA, AIRPORT. PERSONNEL ON THE GROUND OBSERVED THE AIRCRAFT STALLING APPROXIMATELY 40' ABOVE THE GROUND. AS A RESULT, THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND; RIGHT WING FIRST, THEN LEFT WING, AND CAME TO A REST OFF OF THE RUNWAY. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE AIRCRAFT HAD ACCUMULATED SOME ICE, ALTHOUGH ICING IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE A MAJOR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI97LA040](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI97LA040), Dec 6, 1996: Beech B55 (N17732), Park Rapids, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's high flare. Factors were the icing weather condition and the airframe ice.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
