## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

LOST POWER ON APPROACH. GOT BELOW VMC. LANDED SHORT PLOWED FIELD. FAILED FEATHER OR CLEAN UP. LEFT FUEL TANK EMPTY. (-23) AFTER A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 27 AT ELYRIA (1G1). BECAUSE OF THE SUN IN THE PILOT'S EYES, THE PILOT DID A GO-AROUND AND ATTEMPTED LANDING ON RUNWAY 9. POWER WAS LOST TO THE LEFT ENGINE AND THE AIRPLANE LANDED IN A FIELD BEFORE THE RUNWAY, IT HIT A FENCE AND STOPPED NEXT TO A GARAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD97LA029](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD97LA029), Dec 7, 1996: Piper PA-23-250 (N4911P), Elyria, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's fuel mismanagement which led to fuel starvation to one engine, and the pilot's failure to maintain control of the airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
