## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON 12-16-96, USAIR FLIGHT 2316, AT FLIGHT LEVEL 31.0' ENROUTE FROM BWI TO JAX EXPERIENCED A TURBINE FAILURE IN THE RIGHT ENGINE. THE AIRCRAFT DIVERTED TO RIC AND LANDED SUCCESSFULLY ON RUNWAY 34 AFTER EXECUTING A MISSED APPROACH AT 09:50 LOCAL. THE PILOT NOTED THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES OF FLIGHT, AND THAT THE AIRCRAFT MADE AN OVERWEIGHT LANDING (108,000 LBS.). THE USAIR MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL INSPECTED THE ENGINE AND FOUND A CONTAINED TURBINE FAILURE. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED, AN OVERWEIGHT LANDING INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED, AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE. THE PRINCIPAL OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE INSPECTORS WERE ADVISED OF THE INCIDENT. INCIDENT IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
