(-16) THE PILOT REPORTED THAT AFTER MAKING "CLEARING TURNS", STUDENT MADE A SERIES OF "S" TURNS ACROSS A ROAD IN THE STUDENT PRACTICE AREA 10 MILES NORTHEAST OF FELTS FIELD (SFF) @ APPROXIMATELY 3900 MSL. POST FLIGHT INSPECTION REVEALED RH ELEVATOR TO BE MISSING & RH LEADING EDGE OF HORIZONTAL STAB. NEAR TIP CRUSHED. SOME SKIN STRESS WRINKLES IN VERTICAL STABILIZER WERE VISIBLE. PIC CONTACTED FSDO AND NTSB.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA97LA038](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA97LA038), Dec 18, 1996: Beech BE-77 (N6043M), Spokane, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the pilots of both airplanes to see and avoid each other. A factor contributing to the accident was the Cessna's pilot diverted attention.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
