## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

EN ROUTE, ENGINE STARTED TO SPUTTER. TRIED TO SWITCH GAS TANKS AND MAGNETO, ENGINE QUIT, CRASHED IN A PASTURE. (.4)THE PILOT FLEW 35 MINUTES USING THE RIGHT AUXILIARY TANK THEN SWITCHED TO THE LEFT AUXILIARY TANK. ABOUT 50 MINUTES LATER, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE PILOT SAID HE PERFORMED RESTART PROCEDURES, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN RESTARTING THE ENGINE. THE AUXILIARY TANKS HELD 17 GALLONS EACH. THE PILOT OPERATING HANDBOOK (POH) NOTED THAT AFTER RUNNING THE FUEL LINE DRY, THE BOOST PUMP MUST BE ACTIVATED IN ORDER TO PURGE THE LINE OF AIR. THE ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP HAD A LEAK IN THE HIGH PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT SCREW O-RING. THE FUEL PUMP WAS ALSO BELOW THE REQUIRED FUEL PRESSURE LIMIT RANGE. THE POH STATED THAT FUEL CONSUMPTION WAS 14 GHP AT 75 PERCENT POWER AT 6,500 FEET MEAN SEA LEVEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI97LA046](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI97LA046), Dec 26, 1996: Bellanca 17-30 (N4836V), Hayes Center, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: inadequate fuel management by the pilot, which resulted in fuel starvation. The factors relating to the accident were: a fuel leak at the engine driven fuel pump, and the engine driven fuel pump…

## Other reports on N4836V (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19900601029839I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900601029839I), Jun 1, 1990: Blanca 1730 (N4836V), Alix, AR. Lost communication on climb. Problem with throttle control. Forced landing in a field.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
