## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: A/C RETURNED TO SLC WITH SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. IT WAS LATER LEARNED THAT THERE WAS NO SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT, BUT JUST THE SMELL OF A BIRD THAT THE AIRCRAFT HIT ON TAKEOFF. THE BIRD IMPACTED THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF #2 ENGINE COWLING. PART OF THE BIRD WAS INGESTED INTO THE ENGINE. THE DAMAGE TO THE COWLING WAS MINIMAL. CONTRACT MAINTENANCE WAS CALLED (DELTA AIRLINES) THE MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL WERE REQUIRED TO REPLACE ONE OF THE ACOUSTIC PANEL'S JUST AFT OF THE FAN SECTION. AFTER THE PANEL WAS REPLACED THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE. THIS IS A FINAL REPORT.

- [Incident 19891108057609I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19891108057609I), Nov 8, 1989: Boeing 73733A (N174AW), Burbank, CA. Smoke from right gear after landing. Deplaned on ramp. Found leaking brake line.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
