## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON "SURFIN" STAR TO PBI - FLIGHT 247 HIT TURBULENCE AT 9000 FT. F/A PATRICIA DEAN IN AFT GALLEY WAS INJURED WITH HEAD WOUND. NO OTHER PERSONNEL WERE AFFECTED. CAPTAIN STATED THAT SEAT BELT SIGN WAS ON AT FL200. (FIRST FLIGHT ATTENDANT ROBIN JEFFREY STATED SEAT BELT SIGN WAS ON 5 MINUTES PRIOR TO INCIDENT.) CAPTAIN RECEIVED A "SEVERE TURBULENCE" REPORT NEAR HIS LOCATION, 5 MINUTES PRIOR. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE A/C HIT THE TURBULENCE FOR 20-30 SECONDS. THE DESCRIPTION BY THE CAPTAIN OF "LINE OF CLOUDS JUST OFF SHORE, WERE IN VMC INTERMITTENTLY DURING THE EVENT" SOUNDS LIKE THE TOPS OF CUMULUS CLOUDS WITH CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY. THIS OCCURRENCE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF: CAPTAIN HAD FLIGHT ATTENDANTS SECURE GALLEY AND TAKE SEATS PRIOR TO DESCENDING TO LOWER ALTITUDES WHERE CUMULUS CLOUDS WERE. (HE REPORTED SEEING TOPS BELOW 10,000 FT), OR IF, ATC ADVISED CAPTAIN OF SEVERE TURBULENCE WELL IN ADVANCE IN ORDER TO SEAT FLIGHT ATTENDANTS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
