NARRATIVE: ON JANUARY 26, 1997, MR. DAVID R. NORRIS, PILOT IN COMMAND OF N732WN, A CESSNA 210T, WAS PRACTICING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS AT GILBERT FIELD MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, WINTER HAVEN, FL. AT APPROXIMATELY 1715 ON THE LAST TOUCH AND GO MR. NORRIS SELECTED THE RIGHT HAND FUEL TANK AND SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF THE ENGINE QUIT DUE TO FUEL STARVATION. MR. NORRIS ATTEMPTED TO SELECT ANOTHER FUEL TANK HOWEVER, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE AIRCRAFT WAS LOSING ALTITUDE AND MR. NORRIS DID NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT TIME TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR PRIOR TO LANDING ON HIGHWAY 92, ADJACENT TO THE AIRPORT. DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS MINOR AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT/PASSENGERS OR PERSONS ON THE GROUND. INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED THAT THE RIGHT HAND FUEL GAUGE WAS INDICATING 2/3 FULL-HOWEVER, THE RIGHT HAND FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE RECORDS INDICATED AN ENTRY ON 9/19/95 STATING THAT THE RIGHT HAND FUEL GAUGE WAS GIVING FALSE READINGS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
