## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT LOST POWER ON TAKEOFF AND CRASHED IN A FIELD. (-23) DURING CLIMB OUT FROM A TOUCH AND GO LANDING, THE INSTRUCTOR INITIATED A SIMULATED "ENGINE OUT" BY RETARDING THE ENGINE THROTTLE. THE STUDENT PILOT TURNED THE AIRCRAFT LEFT TOWARD AN OPEN FIELD. THE INSTRUCTOR ADVANCED THE THROTTLE FORWARD BUT THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO SINK. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND ATTEMPTED TO MANEUVER THE AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT TO AVOID A TREE LINE AND THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND. THE IMPACT POINT WAS LEFT OF THE DEPARTURE RUNWAY APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE FROM THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE RIGHT WING TIP STRUCK THE GROUND FIRST WHICH TURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE RIGHT. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR WAS TORN FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A SKID SIDEWAYS. THE MAIN LANDING GEAR, PROPELLER, AFT FUSELAGE AND THE WINGS WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE PILOTS RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES.
