## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON FEBRUARY 21, 1997, A PIPER PA-31-350, CANADIAN REGISTRY C-FNAG, OPERATED BY ISLAND AIRLINK CORP. EXPERIENCED HIGH OIL TEMPERATURE ON THE RIGHT ENGINE A FEW MINUTES AFTER TAKE-OFF. THE PILOT SAW SMOKE AND OIL COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND SHUT IT DOWN. HE DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. CORPORATE WINGS (THE FBO) MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL FOUND THE #5 PISTON WITH A HOLE BURNED IN IT DUE TO A FAILED PISTON PIN PLUG. #5 CYLINDER ASSEMBLY WAS CHANGED AND THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
