## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE:ON FEBRUARY 22, 1997, (11:00 PM AT NIGHT) AT MINDEN, NEVADA (MEV), N5242R (CESSNA 172M), STRUCK FOUR LEFT SIDE RUNWAY LIGHTS AND A TAXIWAY LIGHT DURING TOUCHDOWN WHILE LANDING ON RUNWAY 34. THE PILOT STATED THAT AFTER TOUCHDOWN HE ALLOWED THE AIRCRAFT TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT TO ACCOMODATE TURNING OFF ONTO THE TAXIWAY.HE SAID THE LEFT MAIN GEAR WENT OFF THE RUNWAY AND HIT SEVERAL RUNWAY LIGHTS BEFORE GETTING BACK ONTO SMOOTH PAVEMENT, WHICH WAS THE EXITING TAXIWAY. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE KNEW ABOUT THE BENT FAIRING ON THE LEFT MAIN GEAR LEG, BUT DID NOT NOTICE THE DAMAGE TO ONE PROPELLER BLADE AND FLEW THE AIRPLANE BACK TO RENO, NV. INVESTIGATION ASCERTAINED THAT AT 1000 FEET FROM THE APPROACH END OF 34 THE FIRST LIGHT WAS BROKEN AND THE LAST LIGHT 750 FEET FROM THERE, WHICH INDICATES THAT THE AIRPLANE STRUCK THE LIGHTS DURING THE TOUCHCOWN PHASE OF LANDING. THE BENT LEFT GEAR LEG FAIRING AND NICKED PROPELLER BLADE WERE VERIFIED DURING INVESTIGATION. THE PILOT AND AIRPLANE RECORDS CHECKED OK. THE PILOT HAD JUST RECEIVED HIS PRIVATE CERTIFICATE ON 02-13-97 AND HAS ONLY THREE NIGHTTIME HOURS LOGGED. A RENO FSDO OPERATIONS INSPECTOR IS SCHEDULED TO REEVALUATE THE PILOT'S SKILLS WITH EMPHASIS ON NIGHT OPERATIONS. THIS INCIDENT AND INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED. THIS INCIDENT DOES NOT INVOLVE A PILOT DEVIATION REPORT 8020-17.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
