## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: PILOT REPORTS CONDUCTING A VFR FLIGHT FROM JESSE VIERTEL MEMORIAL AIRPORT (VER), BOONVILLE, MISSOURI TO BAXTER COUNTY REGIONAL AIRPORT (BPK), MOUNTAIN HOME, ARKANSAS. WHILE IN LEVEL FLIGHT AT 6,500 FT. MSL APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES NORTH OF LEBANON, MISSOURI, HE NOTED DECREASING OIL PRESSURE FOLLOWED SHORTLY THEREAFTER BY A "BANG", ENGINE VIBRATION AND POWER LOSS. PILOT COULD SEE THE LIGHTS OF THE FLOYD W. JONES AIRPORT AT LEBANON, AND INITIALLY PLANNED A FORCED LANDING FOR THE AIRPORT. WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT HIS ALTITUDE WAS INSUFFICIENT TO REACH THE AIRPORT, HE MADE A SUCCESSFUL FORCED LANDING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 44 NEAR THE AIRPORT. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE OR PERSONS OR PROPERTY ON THE GROUND. SUBSEQUENT DISASSEMBLY OF THE ENGINE REVEALED A BROKEN CRANKSHAFT. AN M OR D REPORT WILL BE FILED. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED. MCI-FSDO INCIDENT NO. CE97IGA0043.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
