## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: AIRCRAFAT N8441H, PILOTED BY RON CAMAROTA, DEPARTED NEW GARDEN (N57), PA, AT ABOUT 0800 EST ON 02/26/97, AND ARRIVED AT WESTCHESTER COUNTY AIRPORT (HPN), NY, AT APPROXIMATELY 0845 EST ON THE SAME DAY. AN APPROACH WAS MADE TO RWY 16 WITH WINDS OUT OF 240 DEGREES AT 8 KNOTS (ALMOST A DIRECT CROSS WIND FROM THE RIGHT). THE AIRCRAFT LANDED FIRMLY, BOUNCED AND BECAME AIRBORNE. THE WIND WAS TAKING IT TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY SO THE PILOT ADDED POWER AND INITIATED A GO-AROUND. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK TWO SIGNS ON THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING AND LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR. ON THE SUBSEQUENT APPROACH THE LEFT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST IN THE GRASS AREA NEXT TO RWY 16, BETWEEN TAXIWAYS D AND F. THE PILOT SUSTAINED NO INJURIES AND ONLY MINOR DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE AIRCRAFT. POOR PILOT TECHNIQUE FOR CROSSWIND LANDING WAS THE APPARENT CAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
