## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: DELTA MD-11 WAS BEING PUSHED BACK FROM GATE 51B AT TERMINAL 5 WITH THE TUG FACING FORWARD. THERE WAS ONE WING WALKER ON EACH WING TIP AREA. AALA B-767-300ER N362AA WAS PARKED AT TERMINAL 4 GATE 42B WITH PASSENGER BOARDING IN PROCESS WHEN THE DELTA MD-11 STRUCK THE R/H STABILIZER TIP AND TRALING EDGE. THE TUG DRIVER AND BOTH WING WALKERS WERE PROPERLY TRAINED IN PROCEDURES & HAD THE OPERATOR PERMITS THAT ARE REQUIRED BY DELTA. THE DELTA MD-11 WAS TEMPORARILY REPAIRED IN LAX FOR A MAINTENANCE FERRY TO ATL FOR A PERMANENT REPAIR. THE AALA B-767 WAS REPAIRED IN LAX BY AMERICAN AIRLINE MAINTENANCE. GATES AT THE DELTA TERMINAL ARE UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND REQUIRES EXTRA CAUTION WHEN AIRCRAFT ARE MOVED IN THE AREA. DELTA HAS MADE CHANGES IN THEIR PUSH BACK PROCEDURES TO ELIMINATE ANY FURTHER OCCURRENCES OF THIS INCIDENT. THIS CASE IS CONSIDERED CLOSED BY LAX-FSDO.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
