## Narrative

AIRCRAFT STRUCK POWER LINE AND CRASHED. (-23) ON MARCH 15, 1997, AT 1447 CDT, A PIPER PA28R-200, N6219J, WAS OPERATED UNDER TITLE 14 CFR PART 91 BY A PRIVATE PILOT, TOBIAS J. HUDSON, CERTIFICATE NO. 465378371. THE PILOT, WITH THREE PASSENGERS ON BOARD DEPARTED MCKINNEY, TX, 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. THE PILOT WAS MANEUVERING NEAR WESTMINSTER, TEXAS, WHEN HE DECIDED TO DIVE TOWARD A BARN SO THE PASSENGERS COULD TAKE PICTURES. WITNESSES STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED OVER, GAINED A LITTLE ALTITUDE, AND IMPACTED THE GROUND AFTER HITTING THE POWER LINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW97FA122](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW97FA122), Mar 15, 1997: Piper PA-28R-200 (N6219J), Westminster, TX, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance during an intentional low altitude maneuver. A factor was the transmission line.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
