## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MARCH 20, 1997, MR. MICHAEL POTEET OPERATED BEECHCRAFT BARON, N829JW, AS PILOT IN COMMAND ON A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM ADDISON AIRPORT (ADS), TEXAS, TO LAKE IN THE HILLS AIRPORT (3CK), ILLINOIS. AT 9,500 FEET, NORTHEAST OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI, MR. POTEET STATED HE TURNED BOTH FUEL SELECTOR VALVES FROM THE AUXILIARY TANKS TO THE MAIN TANKS SIMULTANEOUSLY. BOTH ENGINES QUIT AND MR. POTEET INITIATED A RESTART PROCEDURE. NEITHER ENGINE WOULD RESTART AND HE DECLARED AN EMERGENCY WITH THE KANSAS CITY CENTER. MR. POTEET SAID HE CHANGED FUEL TANKS FROM THE MAIN TANKS TO THE AUXILIARY TANKS, THEN BACK TO THE MAINS AND ATTEMPTED SEVERAL ENGINE RESTARTS WITHOUT SUCCESS. AT APPROXIMATELY 1823 CST, MR. POTEET LANDED BEECHCRAFT N829JW ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 44 (I-44), AT THE 115-MILE MARKER NEAR CONWAY, MISSOURI, ABOUT 10 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE LEBANON AIRPORT. INSPECTOR GARRISON OF THE KANSAS CITY FSDO ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AT 2200 CST. HE FOUND THE AUXILIARY FUEL TANKS TO BE VOID OF FUEL WITH AN AMPLE SUPPLY IN THE MAIN TANKS. THE PROPELLERS HAD NOT BEEN FEATHERED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS JUMP STARTED AND WAS FLOWN OFF I-44 TO THE LEBANON, MISSOURI AIRPORT WHERE TWO NEW BATTERIES WERE INSTALLED BY A CERTIFICATED MECHANIC. MR. POTEET DEPARTED LEBANON AIRPORT SHORTLY THEREAFTER, FOR LAKE IN THE HILLS AIRPORT, ILLINOIS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO PASSENGERS, NO AIRCRAFT DAMAGE AND NO PROPERTY DAMAGE. INVESTIGATION OF THIS INCIDENT INDICATES A LACK OF COMPETENCY BY THE PILOT IN COMMAND ON MULTIENGINE SYSTEMS OPERATIONS AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THIS INCIDENT REPORT IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
