## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MR. FRANKLIN ENCOUNTERED STRONG WINDS FROM THE WEST ON HIS TRIP FROM WACO, TX TO LUBBOCK, TX AND DECIDED HE WOULD NEED TO STOP FOR FUEL. HE ELECTED TO LAND AT WINSTON FIELD IN SNYDER, TX. BECAUSE THEY HAD AN "EAST/WEST" RUNWAY. SO HE COULD LAND INTO THE WIND. WHEN HE ARRIVED IT WAS GETTING DARK AND THE ONLY LIGHTED RUNWAY WAS THE "NORTH/SOUTH" RUNWAY. HE ELECTED TO ATTEMPT A LANDING ON THE UNLIGHTED "EAST/WEST" RUNWAY DUE TO THE WINDS. HE LANDED LONG, WENT OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND STRUCK A DIRT "BERM".

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
