## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: 03/26/97, AIRCRAFT WHEEL/TIRE ASSEMBLIES WERE CHANGED BY OWNER/OPERATOR. 03/27/97, 11:20 PST, WHILE THE PILOT WAS MAKING PRACTICE TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS, THE LEFT MAIN WHEEL ASSY DEPARTED FROM THE AXEL. AFTER BEING NOTIFIED BY RADIO FROM THE GROUND CREW. THE PILOT SLOWLY LANDED ON THE RIGHT MAIN AND TAIL WHEELS. WHEN THE LEFT SIDE SETTLED, THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED ON THE LEFT WHEEL BRAKE DISC, CAUSING NO OTHER DAMAGE. THE WHEEL ASSY. WAS RETRIEVED AND WHEN INSPECTED ONLY THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL WHERE IT RUBBED ON THE AXEL WAS DAMAGED. THE RETENSION NUT WAS NOT FOUND. THE OPERATOR HAS ORDERED A NEW AXEL, RETENTION NUT, BEARINGS AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY AND WILL REPLACE THE WHEEL WITH A SERVICABLE ONE. THE RETENTION NUT ASSEMBLY AND WILL REPLACE THE WHEEL WITH A SERIVCABLE ONE. THE RETENTION NUT IS LOCKED IN PLACE BY TWO SMALL SCREWS AND THEN SAFETY WIRED IN PLACE. THE OWNER STATED THAT THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO LOCATE THE RETENTION NUT TO TRY AND DETERMINE WHY IT CAME OFF. THEY WILL THEN REPORT BACK TO US. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
