## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4)WHILE TAXIING, THE PILOT OBSERVED A VAN TRAVELLING IN REVERSE MOTION, MOVING FROM THE PILOT'S LEFT TO RIGHT. THE PILOT SIGNALED THE VAN WITH THE LANDING LIGHTS TO ATTRACT THE DRIVER'S ATTENTION, BUT THE VAN PASSED THE NOSE OF THE AIRPLANE. THE PILOT STOPPED THE AIRPLANE, AND THE VAN CONTINUED AND STRUCK THE RIGHT REAR FUSELAGE OF THE AIRPLANE. THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE DRIVER HAD EXITED THE RUNNING VAN TO WORK ON ANOTHER AIRPLANE, WITHOUT SETTING THE PARKING BRAKE. THE VAN'S TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN REPLACED THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT, AND THE INDICATOR FOR THE GEAR SELECTION WAS MISSING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD97LA057](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD97LA057), Apr 2, 1997: Fokker F-27 (N280MA), Atlantic City, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: Failure of the driver of the van to set the parking brake before exiting the van.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
