## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIRD SOLO. ENCOUNTERED GUSTY WINDS ON APPROACH. TRIED GO AROUND. HIT BY GUST RAISING FLAPS. IMPACTED. NOSED OVER. (-23) PILOT PALMER WAS ON HIS SECOND SOLO FLIGHT AND HAD DEPARTED THE AIRPORT AREA APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES EARLIER. THE WINDS WERE CALM AT DEPARTURE. UPON RETURN TO THE AIRPORT WINDS INCREASED AND BECAME GUSTY. ON A SECOND LANDING THE PILOT STATED THAT HE LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WHEN A HIGH GUST OF WIND STRUCK THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE RIGHT. HE CRASHED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY 7 CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA97LA129](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA97LA129), Apr 10, 1997: Cessna 172N (N4874D), Lawrenceville, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain directional control during a crosswind landing. The winds were a factor.
