## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NOSED OVER DURING WHEEL LANDING ON SOD RUNWAY. WHEELS HIT SHALLOW DITCH HIDDEN BY TALL GRASS. (-23) THE RECENTLY RESTORED TAILWHEEL BOEING STEARMAN B-75 NOSED OVER ONTO ITS TOPSIDE AFTER A WHEEL LANDING ON THE SOD RUNWAY. THE VINTAGE OPEN COCKPIT BI-WING AIRPLANE SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL VERTICAL FIN, RUDDER, TOP WING, ENGINE AND PROPELLER DAMAGE. BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE WEARING STURDY MILITARY TYPE SEAT BELTS WITH SHOULDER HARNESSES AND THERE WAS NO INJURY TO THE PILOT OR NON PILOT PASSENGER. THE PILOT SAID THAT HE MUST HAVE RELAXED ELEVATOR PRESSURE AND THEN LOST PITCH CONTROL WHEN THE MAIN WHEELS STRUCK A SHALLOW DRAINAGE DITCH CONCEALED BY A THICK LAYER OF FRESH SPRINGTIME GRASS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA97LA149](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA97LA149), Apr 24, 1997: Boeing B75N1 (N133R), Huntersville, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain a visual lookout on landing rollout, resulting in an on-ground collision with a known obstacle (ditch) and subsequent nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
