## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 1997 AT 10:00 EDT, A FOKKER F-28MK0100 OPERATED BY AMERICAN AIRLINES, EXPERIENCED A STEERING PROBLEM AFTER DEPARTING GATE #21 AT BUFFALO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BUF). THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON TAXIWAY "A" WHEN IT LOST ALL POWER TO THE NOSE GEAR STEERING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED BACK TO THE GATE AND THE PASSENGERS DEPARTED. CONTRACT MAINTENANCE REPLACED THE HAND WHEEL ASSEMBLY WHICH HAD SHEARED ITS UNIVERSAL JOINT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RELEASED. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
