## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

LOST POWER ON TAKEOFF AT 100FT. LANDED ON AIRPORT BUT SLID OFF INTO FENCE. FUEL CONTAMINATED WITH FIBERGLASS RESIN. (-23) ON 05/03/97, A LONG EZ EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT, N86RG, EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AFTER TAKEOFF AT APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET AGL, AT NORTHWEST REGIONAL AIRPORT, 52F, ROANOKE, TX. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN APPROXIMATELY A LEVEL ATTITUDE ON AIRPORT PROPERTY AND CONTINUED TO SLIDE OFF AIRPORT PROPERTY AFTER PROCEEDING THROUGH A BARBED WIRE FENCE. THE AIRPLANE RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT SUFFERED ONLY MINOR INJURIES. SUBSEQUENT EXAMINATION OF THE FUEL SYSTEM REVEALED GROSS CONTAMINATION OF GASCOLATER WITH FIBERGLASS RESIN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW97FA173](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW97FA173), May 3, 1997: Gowan LONG-EZ (N86RG), Roanoke, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain the proper descent rate. A factor was the gascolator's filter screen becoming contaminated with fiber glass residue due to the pilot/mechanic's inadequate maintenance.

## Other reports on N86RG (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19920311013489I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920311013489I), Mar 11, 1992: Amtrru VARIEZELONG (N86RG), Ft Worth, TX, Minor damage. Nose gear collapsed while taxiing onto runway. Gear strut bracket failed. Pilot did not have current medical.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
