AFTER DEPARTING BRO AND REACHING ALTITUDE OF 2,000 FEET AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO SET CRUISE POWER BY ADJUSTING THE THROTTLE AND PROPELLER CONTROLS. WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS REDUCED THE MANIFOLD PRESSURE GAUGE RESPONDED CORRECTLY INDICATING AROUND 22" MAP. HOWEVER, WHEN THE PROP WAS REDUCED THERE WAS NO CHANGE NOTED IN EITHER ENGINE RPM OR ENGINE SOUND, ENGINE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE INDICATED ZERO, ENGINE TEMP. NORMAL, AND THE ENGINE RPM AT 2700. UPON ATTEMPTING TO RETURN TO THE AIRPORT THE ENGINE CONDITION DECLINING MR. HAINES CLOSED THE THROTTLE AND MIXTURE CONTROLS AND AFTER LOCATING AN EMPTY FIELD TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT OR INJURY. AFTER EVACUATING THE AIRCRAFT MR. HAINES AND MR. BAIG INSPECTED THE EXTERIOR OF THE AIRCRAFT AND FOUND NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF DAMAGE EXCEPT A POOL OF ENGINE OIL THAT HAD COLLECTED UNDER THE NOSE GEAR WHEEL. A MEDIVAC HELICOPTER WAS DISPATCHED AND ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AT 3:00PM AND FLEW MR. HAINES AND MR. BAIG TO BRO. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT AN IMPROPER TYPE OIL DRAIN PLUG WAS INSTALLED WHICH DRAINED THE ENGINE OIL DURING FLIGHT. THIS OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING THIS MATTER AND CONSIDERS THIS INCIDENT CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
