## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-16) AIRCRAFT LOST POWER AFTER T/O FROM MARTIN STATE AIRPORT RUNWAY 33 AT APPROXIMATELY 300. PILOT PUT AIRCRAFT BACK ON RUNWAY 33 BUT OVER RAN RUNWAY, CROSSED GRASS FIELD AND HIT DRAINAGE DITCH BEFORE COMING TO REST AGAINST CHAIN LINK FENCE. INVESTIGATION FOUND WATER IN FUEL LINES AND CARBURETOR BOWL CONTAINED APPROXIMATELY 50% WATER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC97LA100](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC97LA100), May 27, 1997: Piper PA-28-140 (N6927W), Baltimore, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate preflight of the airplane which failed to detect water in the fuel, and resulted in a power loss after departure due to fuel contamination.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
