## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

EXHUASTED FUEL ENROUTE. FAILED TO CHECK FUEL PRIOR TO TRIP. NOSED OVER LANDING IN ROUGH TERRAIN. (-23) THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND, WHO WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE AICRAFT, REPORTED TO AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL THAT THE ENGINE WAS LOSING POWER. HE LANDED IN A FIELD EIGHT MILES SOUTHWEST OF GRAND STRAND AIRPORT, HIS AIRPORT OF INTENDED LANDING. FACTS REVEALED IN THE INVESTIGATION INDICATE THAT THE AIRCRAFT RAN OUT OF FUEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL97LA081](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL97LA081), Jun 5, 1997: Cessna 172I (N5124G), N. Myrtle Beach, SC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate pre-flight inspection which resulted in fuel exhaustion and total loss of engine power. A factor was the soft terrain at the emergency landing site.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
