(-23) TEARDOWN INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE COMPLETED WITH THE FOLLOWING RESULTS: NUMBER 3 CYLINDER CONNECTING ROD BROKEN AT THE CRANKSHAFT END. THE BREAK WAS CAUSED BY OVERHEATING OF THE ROD BEARING DUE TO OIL STARVATION. THE STARVATION CAUSED BY ALUMINUM PARTICLES FROM THE NUMBER 3 CYLINDER PISTON PIN PLUG (PART NUMBER 60828) PLUGGING THE OIL SYSTEM SCREENS AND FILTER. A MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT REPORT WILL BE ISSUED FOR THIS INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
