## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WING TIP HIT FIRE TRUCK THEN PIVOTED INTO TRUCK WITH NOSE OF 152. LOOKED AT PAPER WORK MOMENTARILY. (-23) STUDENT WAS TAXIING OUT FOR TAKEOFF FOR SOLO CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT. AIRCRAFT CAUGHT LEFT WINGTIP ON FIRE TRUCK THAT WAS PARKED BETWEEN THE TAXI-WAY AND HANGAR ADJACENT TO THE APRON. AIRCRAFT THEN SPUN AROUND AND PROPELLER STRUCK THE TRUCK CAUSING MINOR (APPARENTLY ONLY MINOR) DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER. THE WING-TIP RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. MINIMAL DAMAGE RECEIVED BY THE TRUCK. THE STUDENT STATED TO ME THAT HE THOUGHT HIS PROGRESS WOULD CLEAR THE TRUCK AND THAT HE MOMENTARILY LOOKED DOWN TO CHECK A PORTION OF HIS PLANNING FOR THE PROPOSED FLIGHT. IN RETROSPECT, HE NEEDED TO WAIT UNTIL CLEAR OF THE TRUCK BEFORE CONSULTING HIS PAPERWORK. INFORMED STUDENT CFI OF NO FURTHER SOLO UNITL DUAL INSTRUCTION RECEIVED. 06-11-97 RX FAX OF STUDENT'S LOGBOOK FROM CFI EVIDENCING ADDITIONAL DUAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI97LA161](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI97LA161), Jun 9, 1997: Cessna 152 (N68454), St. Cloud, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's misjudgment of his clearance around the parked vehicle. A factor was the location of the parked vehicle.

## Other reports on N68454 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19931208050329I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19931208050329I), Dec 8, 1993: Cessna 152 (N68454), Gull Lake, MN, Minor damage. Contacted a snowplowed ridge of snow on takeoff roll. Aborted.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
