## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 1997, AT APPROXIMATELY 0700 LOCAL TIME, FLIGHT 1678 DEPARTED THE GATE DESTINATION CINCINNATI, OHIO, AS THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED TO THE RUNWAY, A FLIGHT ATTENDANT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM AN OVEN IN THE FORWARD GALLEY. THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT PUT THE FIRE OUT USING A HALON FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO THE DELTA GATES. MAINTENANCE MECHANICS DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE TO BE A SMALL PIECE OF PAPER LEFT ON THE FOOD CONTAINERS WHEN STORED IN THE OVEN BY THE CATERERS. THERE WAS AN APPROXIMATE 45 MINUTES DELAY WHILE THE FOOD CARTONS WERE EXCHANGED AND THE FIRE BOTTLE REPLACED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RELEASED AND DURING THE TAXIING, THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT REPORTED THAT THE REAR OF THE AIRPLANE WAS FILLING RAPIDLY WITH SMOKE. THE CAPTAIN STOPPED THE AIRCRAFT, AND THE PASSENGERS EVACUATED THE AIRPLANE VIA THE L1, L2, AND R2 DOORS, REAR AIRSTAIRS, AND ALL FOUR OVER WING EXITS. ALL PASSENGERS AND CREW WERE RETURNED TO THE TERMINAL. ONLY ONE PERSON REPORTED ANY INJURIES CAUSED BY HAVING TO EVACUATE THE AIRCRAFT. SHE REPORTED AND WAS TREATED FOR A BRUISED ARM. MAINTENANCE MECHANICS TESTED AND TROUBLESHOT THE AIR CONDITION PACK SYSTEM AND WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE FLOW MULTIPLIER UNIT. NO NMAC REPORT FILED. NO EIR FORTHCOMING. THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
