## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON PULLUP FROM SPRAY RUN ENGINE QUIT. LANDED IN FARM FIELD. OVERSHORT INTO TREES. RIGHT MAGNETO DRIVE GEAR FAILED. (-23) AIRCRAFT N6816Q HAD TO MAKE A FORCED LANDING IN A BEANFIELD DUE TO LOSS OF POWER. THE A/C TRAVELED ABOUT 750 FT. AFTER TOUCH-DOWN, AND HIT SOME TREES, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE A/C. AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH. THE R/H MAGNETO WAS FOUND TO BE MALFUNCTIONING, CAUSED BY A STRIPED GEAR INSIDE THE MAGNETO.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA97LA190](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA97LA190), Jun 20, 1997: Schweizer G-164B (N6816Q), Edwards, MS, substantial damage. Probable cause: failure of the distributor drive gear in the right magneto, resulting in loss of engine power and a forced landing. The lack of suitable terrain for a forced landing was a related factor.
