## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER REPAIR OF THROTTLE CABLE BY A&P, PILOT COMPLIED WITH 91.103 THEN ATTEMPTED TO TAKEOFF. AT ABOUT 1500' DISTANCE, HE DECIDED TO ABORT. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME HE TRAVELED ACROSS A TERRACE IN THE FIELD AND WENT AIRBORNE, LOST CONTROL, AND HIT A FENCE THAT REMOVED THE LEFT WING FROM THE AIRPLANE. THE NOSE GEAR BROKE OFF AND THE FUSELAGE SLID TO A STOP. THE TWO PEOPLE ON BOARD EVACUATED THE AIRPLANE WITHOUT INJURY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW97LA235](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW97LA235), Jun 25, 1997: Piper PA-28RT-201 (N8326S), Whitewright, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of an unsuitable area for takeoff. A factor was the dirt bank (terrace).

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
