## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON TAKE-OFF FROM GRIEVE'S GRASS STRIP (Y-20) THE AIRCRAFT'S LEFT MAIN WHEEL CONTACTED A SOFT PORTION OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY INTO A SOFT FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER AND CAME TO REST ON ITS BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI97LA184](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI97LA184), Jun 25, 1997: Weatherly 201C (N1299W), Buffalo, ND, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate preflight planning/preparation, and his failure to maintain directional control of the airplane. Water on the runway and the soft terrain were related factors.

## Other reports on N1299W (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19940822034049I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19940822034049I), Aug 22, 1994: Wthrly 201C (N1299W), Chocowinity, NC, Minor damage. Engine quit after switching tanks returning to base. Landed in soybeans. Selector valve interior corroded and broken

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
