## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DEPARTING PRIVATE STRIP WING. HIT A HAY BALE. HAD ROTATED TO MISS BALE BUT FAILED. CARTWHEELED TO STOP. (-23) PILOT STATED THAT ON TAKEOFF ROLL AND AS HE WENT OVER A SMALL SLOPE (HILL) IN THE RUNWAY AND HIS NOSE CAME DOWN GIVING HIM MORE VISIBILITY, HE REALIZED HE WAS TOO FAR TO THE LEFT. GAVE FULL RIGHT RUDDER BUT NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR CORRECTION. IMPACTED HAY BAIL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA97LA199](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA97LA199), Jun 28, 1997: Sloan RV-6 (N626BA), Muscle Shoals, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to see-and-avoid the bales of hay duirng the takeoff roll, which resulted in an in-flight collision with a bale at liftoff and subsequent in-flight collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
