NARRATIVE: ON JULY 4, 1997, 1618 LOCAL, CESSNA 320 N3468Q HAD IT'S NOSE GEAR COLLAPSE ON LANDING AT NAPA COUNTY AIRPORT, CA. THE PILOT HAD BEEN TRYING TO LOCK THE GEAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES PRIOR TO LANDING WITH NO SUCCESS. (ALTHOUGH THE PILOT HAS OWNED THIS AIRCRAFT FOR ONLY A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME, HE HAD PREVIOUSLY OWNED A CESSNA 310 AND HAD OVER 400 HOURS IN THAT SIMILAR AIRCRAFT, AND WAS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE LANDING GEAR SYSTEM). MINOR DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE AIRCRAFT AND NO OCCUPANTS REPORTED ANY INJURIES. THIS AIRCRAFT HAD TWO PREVIOUS NOSE LANDING GEAR FAILURES WITH PREVIOUS OWNER/OPERATORS. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ NO FURTHER ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AT THIS TIME.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
